About us

How it all began

The Club was founded in 1961 for amateur artists in and around Rye and there are currently around 110 members.

We like to encourage members to improve their skills and techniques and the Club’s activities include lectures, demonstrations and workshops hosted by invited professionals as well as ‘plain air’ painting days and outings such as the RA Summer Exhibition.

St Mary’s Centre, Lion Street, Rye – Exhibition venue and lecture hall

Our own Exhibition of member’s paintings is held at St Mary’s Centre, Lion Street, Rye and runs for 10 days every August. The Club has a fascinating history, with our first exhibition having taken place in 1962

Although the sale of pictures at our annual exhibition is always welcomed, the Club’s prime objective is for members to show and share their work.
